Self-motivation- Soundtrack to my career Part 1 -
Before the Success (2005-2006)
Though IT being my career and one of the real motivations, one of the real
backbones which kept my interest within computers which allowed me to harness
my skills a lot more was music.
One of my first focuses I had once I got more to grips with computing was
maintaining the very large music library which I had and was very meticulous
about every detail of it.
Everything had to be organized in terms of
• Artist
• Year of Release
• Album Name
• Genre
And back in my younger days I had to rip every CD to the computer manually
which would take ages to do (speed was 4x read), but eventually got all of them
on there 😀
I was big on the right application to have the perfect library so I used Windows
Media Player a lot as well as some others such as Real Player etc. There was
another one called “ winamp”, and I think and you could change its media player
skin's to multiple ones not sure if it exists anymore. But on Windows Media
Player with the attributes above the album art was crucial for me to see and
some albums it didn't recognize so there was a function where it could go to
the internet and find the album info then match it up.
I think everybody has some kind of soundtrack or theme song or songs or an
album as such which they may travel to work with or even listen to during
working within the office and with me being around music very very early my
music knowledge is maybe a little different for what people would think I would
know.
In terms of genres it's always going to be Hip-hop, RnB and dancehall for me
and growing up I wasn't trying to entertain anything else, but then I started
to expand the knowledge when I came across a list called the "Rolling
Stones 500 Greatest Albums of All Time" and I managed to get most of these
CDs and listen to them. With this I was able to pinpoint majority of samples
which were used in songs I liked etc. off memory I know Tribe Called Quest -
Can I pick it samples Lou Reed’s Walk on the Wild Side on the Transformer album
in 1972 (think it was 278 in the list at the time).
Between 2005-2006 when I first was wanting to break into the IT Industry I was
heavily into MP3/MP4 players, just to have a mobile library of all of my music and
would not leave without it. But now with how far mobile phones have come along I
can do this with just a single device rather than a phone, MP3/MP4 player &
PDA all in the same pocket!
But then I got into the "marching through the snow" era when I was in
between the private course at Just IT and my work experience placement.
I had the Nokia 6500 phone
which had an expanded memory card inside, wasn’t too big of a memory expansion
but it was enough to have a good number of tracks on there. I had a track list
which I listened to every day from late 2005 to about maybe July 2006 where I
had landed my first role. Till this day I say that soundtrack I created was
responsible for being the soundtrack for my success. So much that I created the
exact same playlist up to date in the exact order almost 😀
For those wondering what those songs were here it is
1. Big Noyd - Shoot Em Up Part 1
2. Rick James - Give It To Me
3. Mobb Deep – G.O.D Part III
4. Big Noyd - Shoot Em Up Part 2
5. Pharrell- Mamacita
6. Papoose - Hustle Hard
7. Jim Jones - Harlem
8. Pharrell & Kanye West - Number One
9. 50 Cent - Pimp Pt 2
10. NORE - I'm a G
I would have put a line or two for each track for the reasons I chose them....” but
the history back then wrote this playlist for me”
, everything worked,
provided the right energy for me to keep pushing forward. ( Note:
I couldn’t tell you how Rick James fitted in this playlist
but again “ the history back then wrote this playlist for me”
)
Funny part was that just before I created this playlist two albums I was
alternating between me leaving college to do the private course was Frank Sinatra’s-
In the Wee Small Hours of the morning & Frank Sinatra’s- Songs for Swinging
Lovers. This was me still working through the greatest albums of all times
list.
But every time I listen to that playlist I remember everything I went through
to get to this point here, and each year the soundtrack changes, the moves and
the motives. “ I think the best thing and most exciting thing about when you you’re
making history, is that you’re not even aware that you are making it!”
This is the first chapter wait for the next one!
